Whether you are looking to get into massage therapy as a career or just want to know how to give your loved ones the best back rubs of their life, there are a few tips to giving a body massage that you are going to want to be aware of. First and foremost you need to understand that the full body massage is one that works almost every muscle in the entire body. Even for the most skilled massage therapist it can take up to an hour or longer to perform a massage over the entire body, so your hands should be well rested and ready to go.
Getting Prepared
Before you have anyone in and get them excited to get a body massage, you are going to need to get prepared. This means getting together all of the different tools you are going to need and setting up the room.
It really depends on who you are massaging because for instance if you were massaging a client you would not want to use all the same ideas as you would if you were giving a body massage to your partner. If you are just giving a basic body massage, you definitely want to make sure that you have the lights dimmed, some relaxing music playing, and maybe even a waterfall decoration piece of some sort nearby because most people say that the sound of water helps to soothe and calm them.
You are also going to need to make sure that you have a strong, supportive table for them to lie down on. It should be an actual massage chair, however if you are just starting off you may want to do it on the floor on a couple of blankets. You would think that a bed or something softer would be more comfortable, but you are really not going to be able to press down and work the muscles if they are on a super soft surface.
Start the Massage
Once you have them all set and ready to go for the body massage, you are going to want to begin by using only your fingertips. The best way is to start up at the neck and start rather gently, then once you have been massaging for a couple of minutes you can increase the strength you are putting into it. The lower back is one of the key areas on the body that you should be focusing on, because it usually has the most stress put on it throughout the day.
